Belichick Offered Falcons Job but Declined

The Atlanta Falcons surprised the NFL world when they hired Raheem Morris as their head coach instead of big names like Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel. However, Boomer Esiason revealed on WFAN's 'Boomer and Gio' show that an NFL executive told him Falcons owner Arthur Blank had offered Belichick the job.

Esiason stated, 'Supposedly, Arthur Blank was bought in to Bill Belichick, and could have offered him the job.' He further mentioned that the executive believed that Blank had indeed made the offer.

The reason why Belichick turned down the Falcons' offer remains unknown. Esiason shared that the executive informed him that Blank had offered Belichick the job. It could be possible that Belichick had concerns or simply felt that it wasn't the right time to return to coaching and wanted to wait for better opportunities in the future.

Belichick's Potential Future

If an NFL team were to hire Belichick, there would naturally be questions surrounding the terms of the contract, salary, and how he would fit into the front office. However, Esiason stated that it didn't seem like these factors were the reason behind Belichick's decision to decline the Falcons' offer.

Esiason said, 'The way it was made sound to me was like, OK, I understand your concerns, but you're going to have to deal with some of this. And we want you to come in... And maybe he just thought better of it. I want to see what happens because we all know there will be about five or six job openings next year.'

It would be intriguing to see if an NFL franchise grants Belichick the same level of power he had in New England. At almost 72 years old, Belichick still has the opportunity to add to his impressive coaching resume. He is just 26 wins away from tying Don Shula for the most regular-season wins in NFL history and 14 wins away from tying Shula for the most wins including playoffs.
